I am a Mexican American, but didn’t really connect with my culture in high school. Here, I’ve become more culturally aware of myself. I’ve fallen in love with my language again. Mexican Studies has become a new passion for me. I want to be able to spread that knowledge about my culture to people who don’t know!
I belong to a Latin-based multi cultural sorority called Sigma Lambda Gamma. We do a lot of work in the community. We’ve worked at the Weld County Food Bank,. And volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club, providing mentoring, hanging out with kids, setting up games for their Halloween party. It’s really gratifying.
Greeley isn’t too big or too small. I don’t get lost. And the parks in Greeley are just gorgeous. I also like to go to Estes Park and have a picnic.
I’ll be sad when I have to leave UNC. But at some point they’ll say, Vicky, you’ve been here too long!
One of my favorite professors in Cynthia Mitchell. She teaches English, and works in the Center for Human Enrichment and is just amazing. She knows how to teach students and how to really get through to them. She’s a strong woman and someone I could just relate to.
