DanielleI visited a lot of campuses: CU, ASU, NAU, University of North Dakota, but I liked the smallness of UNC. After I met with the faculty and staff, and saw the family atmosphere of the campus, I knew it was the next step in my future, and my home away from home.

I want to live on campus for all four years. Who wouldn’t? I like to be able to just roll out of bed and go to class. I love living where I study. It helps keep me motivated. When I go home to see my family in Keanesburg, I find it harder to study.

I love all the Res Life activities. I live in Harrison and there are things to do all week, like frost your own cupcake decorating contests, retreats—we even had a presentation about the Holocaust and how the American media impacted the war.

I work part time at Harrison Hall and belong to the National Residence Hall Honorary. It’s comprised of the top 1% of leaders in residence halls on campus. We give out recognition to faculty, other groups on campus, award scholarships. I’ve gotten super involved through the Residence Hall Association.

The Rec Center is amazing. I love the new holographic equipment. I go rock climbing and walk the track a lot. I participated in the campus Relay for Life for the American Cancer Association there.

I serve as an orientation leader on campus. It’s one of the things I’m most proud of in my career. We do academic advising, give tours, we give presentations to parents and potential students. Michelle Tyson, the director of Orientation is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and knows how to push you in a positive direction. In the past, I struggled with my grades, but she helped me find my passion. I now have a 4.0 and she’s a big part of the reason I am doing so well now.
