Keiko K

Keiko KrahnkeI’m an Assistant Professor of Management at Monfort College of Business. I’ve been here about 10 years. I enjoy teaching because it is my way to investing in the future and making a difference.  Future leaders will face many complex issues, and I would like to better prepare my students so they can take humanity to the next level.  I particularly enjoy teaching at UNC because of the people who truly care about helping our students learn and develop themselves.  These individuals are transforming lives and making a difference everyday.

What makes being an Honors advisor such a rewarding job,  is being able to explore interesting research topics with students who are highly motivated and ready to do some challenging work.  I especially enjoy seeing them apply their critical and higher order thinking in their projects.

UNC's Honors program offers many opportunities for students to be involved with events and projects on campus.  I encourage students to get involved in activities outside of their classes.  As for their theses, I listen to their topics of interest and try to match their research topic with appropriate professors.

I serve as the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity.  In this role, I try to help build a vibrant learning community that values diversity in the broad sense.  There are many people who are doing great things to embrace diversity at UNC, but we can do better at bridging and sharing these practices. Sharing and creating partnerships, not only within the campus community but also with the Greeley community and beyond, is critical.  To the best of my ability, I would like to shift the more traditional model of diversity, often perceived as divisive, to a model of transformation.

Where attended college: I did my undergrad and graduate work at Colorado State University.

Favorite spot on campus: The open area behind Kepner.I used to walk there with my beloved greyhound, Jack, who passed on a few years ago.

Favorite off campus restaurant: I go to Echo’s often and love the food there.
