CONSTITUTION OF THE CAMPUS CHAPTER OF THE ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN IN
COMMUNICATIONS, INC.
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN COLORADO.
ARTICLE I : NAME
The name of this organization shall be the campus Chapter of the Association of
Women in Communications, Inc. at the University of Northern Colorado.
ARTICLE II: Purpose
This chapter shall be a nonprofit professional organization for individuals in
all majors, faculty and staff at the University of Northern Colorado.
ARTICLE III : Membership
Membership shall not be based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin,
marital status, or disability, instead membership must be open to all
individuals abiding by the constitution and bylaws set forth by this
organization as defined by the national and student chapters.
A member in good standing may vote, hold elective office and participate in all
AWC events.
ARTICLE IV: Consultants
Consultants for the student chapter are any organization affiliated with the
Association of Women in Communications, Inc. Consultants may not vote or hold
elected office for the student chapter. Consultants act as a resource for the
chapter.
ARTICLE V: Officers
Officers shall include a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
President: To preside over meetings, obtain and distribute information about
AWC, network on behalf of AWC coordinate AWC presentations, to call special
meetings, to meet with the University of Northern Colorado Chapter student
liaison, to chair the Board Members meetings, and host special events,
designate projects to committees.
Board Members:In absence of the president, the board members serve in his/her
place and assume all presidential duties, serves as campus liaison, maintain
the chapter calendar, in the event of a vacancy in the office of the president,
the board members automatically become president and cosign on all accounts
payable and receivable.
Secretary: Record minutes of the meetings and keep in a book, make minutes
available to any member, advisor, and/or Communication Department, to maintain
current and accurate copies of all organizational documents, to file reports,
to issue written notices of meetings and certain motions to prepare the agenda
for the presiding officer, to maintain membership records, to provide signed
copies of organizational documents, to maintain current list of all committees,
committee chairs and committee members, to record time and date on proposals
received at each meeting, and to coordinate the reading of proposals put forth
to the members at each meetings.
Treasurer: maintain records of all financial reports, collect chapter and
national dues, send all required money to the national headquarters, pay out
money when approved by the chapter to oversee paperwork on accounts payable and
receivable, provide necessary financial information for national reports, read
monthly report at designed meetings, and work with committee chairs on budget
for programs and events approved by the members.
Historian: Record organizations events, programs, meetings, guest speakers
through pictures, videos and souvenirs: maintain a portfolio of the
organization; work with the committee chairs to record the development of
programs, projects and events, and be available to committee chairs to record

every event.
All elected officers are one school year appointments. Elections will be held in
April for the next school year starting in the Fall. All candidates must be an
active ember of the campus Chapter of the Association of Women in
Communications. Inc. at the University of Northern Colorado for a
minimum of one year.
ARTICLE VI : Meetings
Regular scheduled meeting will be approved by membership with majority rules.
Special meetings can only be called by the Board Members and approved by the
advisor. Officer meetings will be on the off week of regular scheduled
meetings. All meetings are conducted according to the Robert's Rules of Order.
ARTICLE VII: Cost of Membership
National Application Fee: Application fees shall accompany the application for
membership Chapter dues: Chapter dues shall be set by majority vote at a
regular business meetings, provided that notice of a pending vote to change the
dues amount has been circulated to members prior to the meeting at which the
vote is taken. Chapter dues shall be payable at the beginning of each academic
year. Dues shall be collected under the supervision of the advisor.
Student Members: The national application fee for students shall cover all
national dues through graduation of termination of college work. Student
members shall pay chapter dues.
ARTICLE VIII: Committees
The standing committees shall be Programs, Membership, Communications, and
Internship/Guest speakers.
Programs: Developing, coordinating and executing programs and special events
approved by the membership
Membership: Recruit new members, promote organizations, disburse and post
materials about AWC events, programs and projects, and develop and coordinate
AWC presentations.
Communications: Develop and create communication tools to correspond with
members and publics, update AWC board and support, and assist other committees
with promotion of events programs and projects.
Internship/Guest speakers: Recruit guest speakers, solicit intern maintain
intern book, liaison to Communication department, coordinate workshops, and
organize trips to organizations within the communications field.
Special committees will be approved by members at scheduled meetings.
ARTICLE IX: Affiliation
The campus Chapter of the Association of Women in Communications,Inc. at the
University of Northern Colorado is affiliated with the national organization
the Association of Women in Communications, Inc.
ARTICLE X: Advisor
An advisor is selected by the members, unless the chapter is inactive, then the
steering committee may select an advisor. The selected advisor should have some
knowledge about AWC.
ARTICLE XI : Amendments
Methods: Bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of those present and voting,
provided that the amendment, signed by two members in good standings has been
submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting and provided the amendment
does not conflict with national bylaws. All amendments will be effective upon
approval of the Board Members of AWC.
ARTICLE XII: Rules and Regulations
The chapter must abide by national bylaws. The chapter must abide by all rules
and regulations established by the University of Northern Colorado Committee on
Student Organizations. In the event of a conflict between AWC national bylaws
and the University of Northern Colorado rules and regulations for student
organizations, the latter shall maintain ultimate sovereignty.
ARTICLE XIII: Bylaws
All attending members at a meeting shall have one vote. All programs, events,
and projects must be submitted to the secretary in writing at least two weeks
before the proposed project. The purpose of the organization is for the benefit
of the member's professional and education enhancement. AWC is a professional
organization defined by the University of Northern Colorado organizations
committee. This organization and representatives of this organization must
conduct themselves in a professional manner while participating in a AWC
program or project or working for the benefit of the AWC. An elected officer
cannot be chair of a committee unless special circumstances occur(i.e. not
enough members). A special election can be called by the Board Members and/or
the advisor to replace vacant positions. Officers can be impeached by a
majority vote of membership attending the meeting and with the approval of the
advisor(i.e. if officer neglects duties causing the progress of the
organization to stall).
