Coffee and Core Conversations

The LAC Task Force invites campus members to attend one or more Coffee and Core Conversations.  The LAC Task Force has been charged by Provost Robbyn Wacker with leading an evaluation of the current structure and curriculum of the Liberal Arts Core in relation to its intended purposes and goals, investigating strategies for institutional assessment of the Liberal Arts Core, initiating a campus-wide conversation about the purpose and goals of general education at UNC, and examining the ways in which co-curricular experience might contribute to general education outcomes at UNC.

The Task Force presented preliminary results from its evaluation to the Liberal Arts Council in February and at the 2014 UNC Assessment Fair in March.  A copy of the report is available here: LAC Task Force Report.  The Coffee and Core Conversations are an opportunity for faculty and staff to share their opinions, values, and aspirations for general education at UNC.  Sessions have been scheduled at various locations across campus to make it easier for people to attend.  However, members of the campus may attend any session.
