Description

Qualtrics is a web-based survey software tool available to UNC faculty and staff to support research and program evaluation and assessment.  The software is also available to student researchers and employees under the supervision of a faculty or staff member. (back)

Employee Account Set Up

The process for setting up an account is simple.  For UNC employees, use the following instructions:

  1. Go to help.unco.edu.
  2. Click on the “Request Support” tab.
  3. Click on “Submit a New Ticket.”
  4. There is a dropdown under the Ticket Description.  Select “Survey Account Request,” complete the form, and submit.

The Technical Support Center will verify that you are a UNC employee and contact you by email or by phone to provide an access code for setting up your account.  Once you have the access code, you can set up the account by going to the UNC Qualtrics website.  Click on the link “Please click here to create an account.”  You must use your “unco.edu” email to set up the account. Student Account Set Up

Qualtrics accounts are available to student researchers or employees working under the supervision of a UNC faculty or staff member.  To set up a student account, follow the directions outlined above.  In the box labeled “Alternate Contact Name/Phone,” provide the name and phone number of the faculty or staff member who will supervise the student account.  In the “Request Description” box, indicate whether this account will be used to support the student’s and/or faculty research or is related to the student’s job responsibilities on campus. (back)

Account Duration

Faculty and staff Qualtrics accounts will remain open as long as the account holder is employed at UNC.  When an account holder leaves the university, the account will be closed, and the user will no longer have access to surveys or data in Qualtrics.  Student accounts will be reviewed on an annual basis and will be closed at the conclusion of the research or assigned work. Terms of Use

Use of Qualtrics is subject to the terms and conditions set forth in the Qualtrics Terms of Use Statement. Use of Qualtrics must conform to all applicable university, state, and federal laws and regulations. Failure to abide by the terms of use will result in the revocation of access to Qualtrics.

Account holders should not share their login and password with others.  The software offers a special feature for sharing or co-authoring surveys with individuals or groups.  Use of the collaboration option ensures that access by other users is limited only to the surveys the primary account holder wants to share.(back)

Related UNC Policies and Procedures

Use of Qualtrics for research purposes is subject to review under UNC Board Policy 3-8-104 regarding research using human subjects.  Information about research ethics and compliance is available from the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Qualtrics users interested in surveying UNC employees, students, or alumni should review UNC’s Institutional Survey Guidelines.  Surveys of more than 200 UNC employees, students, or alumni must be approved prior to initiating the survey, and requests for contact lists will not be completed until the survey has been approved.  (back)
