Drummer Jim White is Associate Professor of Music, Jazz Studies, at the University of Northern Colorado. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Jazz Studies/Composition from Middle Tennessee State University. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of North Texas, where he performed with the renowned One O’clock Lab Band for three years. After receiving his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies, White toured internationally with Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau band. White is featured on Ferguson’s 1992 recording, Footpath Cafe.

In 1995, White moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he remains active as a studio-recording musician. His versatility and unique sound have been featured on many jazz, pop, and country recordings, commercial jingles, and sound library recordings. In 2007, White joined Grammy-Award-winning group Alison Krauss and Union Station for their tour of the United States. White has performed with many great jazz artists, including Terell Stafford, George Garzone, The North German Radio (N.D.R.) Big Band, Joey DeFrancesco, Kevin Mahogany, Rufus Reid, Pat Bianchi, and Greg Gisbert.

White is featured on recordings with many diverse artists, including J.D. Souther, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, Clay Jenkins, Don Aliquo, Shibboleth, Charlie Peacock, Jim Ferguson, Chris Potter, Pat Coil, Scott Robinson, Jamey Simmons, Mike Pope, Dick Oatts, Rich Perry, Stefan Karlsson, Kirk Whalum, Annie Sellick, Pam Tillis, Crystal Gayle, and many others.
