Dr. Jill Burleson Burgett

Choral Music Education
Dr. Jill Burleson Burgett, Assistant Professor of Music and Associate Director of Choral Studies at UNC, conducts the Women’s Glee Club and Prima Voce Vocal Chamber Ensemble, and teaches choral methods and conducting classes. Her Doctor of Arts degree is from Ball State University, where she was the Don Neuen fellowship recipient and subsequently served for three years as Associate Director of Choral Activities. She holds an MM degree (choral conducting) from Ball State and a BM degree (vocal, music education, magna cum laude) from Heidelberg College, with additional vocal study at Eastern Illinois University. Burgett has prepared the choruses for major works with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra for Maestros Donald Neuen, Kirk Trevor, and Bohuslav Rattay.
For nearly twenty years, Burgett has conducted choirs in the public school arena, with positions held at all grade levels. She has served on the Indiana ACDA board as College and University Choirs Chair, has held the Youth and Student activities position on the Central Division ACDA Board, and has served on the NCCO board. She has frequently judged All State Choir auditions and has served as festival clinician in the Midwest. She has chaired committees for development of repertoire lists for Indiana choral festivals and has presented to the Indiana Education Association, Indiana ACDA, IMEA State Convention, CMS National Convention, the Festival 500 International Festival, and the Villa-Lobos International Festival. Her research on the Sacred Choral Music of Villa- Lobos was recently published as a feature article in the Choral Journal. Recent international concert tours have included performances in Prague, Eisenach, Vienna, and Budapest.
