A man of many passions, Erik Applegate is a bassist, composer, and songwriter. Current projects include recording and touring with Born To Wander (an indie jazz & Americana trio) and the Dana Landry Trio & Quartet, composing a jazz opera, working on the jazz orchestra “Romeo and Juliet” project, and songwriting.

Called “a top-notch acoustic bass performer” by JazzReview.com, Applegate has performed with the Bob Mintzer Big Band, Nnenna Freelon, Milt Jackson, Jeff Coffin, Mulgrew Miller, Eddie Daniels, Dick Oatts, Clay Jenkins, Dave Pietro, James Williams, Harold Mabern, Ed Thigpen, and others, and has appeared throughout the U.S. and in Europe, Australia, and China.
Red Skies, Applegate’s first CD, reached #2 on the Roots Music Report chart; he is also heard on charting albums including Born To Wander’s self-titled debut, Dana Landry’s Grammy-nominated Journey Home, 7ON7’s Back When It Was Fun, and Don Aliquo’s Another Reply.

Erik has composed for jazz ensembles, symphony orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, and classical chamber groups. He was awarded an Individual Artist Grant by the Colorado Council on the Arts for his Walt Whitman Jazz Suite, and his compositions have been performed throughout the US and internationally. Songwriting is a growing part of his creative life.
