Opera Theatre
Brian Luedloff, Director
Since 1954 the production of opera on the UNC campus has enjoyed a long and storied tradition, involving collaborations with the community and the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra and featuring many prominent guest artists. Through the production of professional-quality performances and complementary curricular content we train singers, prepare educators and bring the most collaborative of art forms to public and educational audiences throughout the Front Range and beyond. Our productions are critically acclaimed, award winning, thought provoking, edgy and often controversial; we’re not your grandmother’s opera company!
Eash season we present two fully - produced operas with orchestra, two programs of opera scenes and a touring chamber opera, in addition to master classes and special events.
Alumni of Opera Theatre now perform regularly on stages around the globe; very recent alumni have enjoyed placement in some of the finest Young Artist training programs in the country, with Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Central City Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Opera New Jersey and Emerald City Opera, Steamboat Springs. Guest artists have included international artists such as conductors Stephen Lord, Dean Williamson and James Lowe; soprani Erie Mills, Lauren Flanigan and Amy Burton; tenors Vale Rideout and Arturo Chacón-Cruz; basses Richard Sutliff and Derrick Ballard.
Our world-class faculty of artists has performed around the globe and includes soprano Diane Bolden-Taylor, soprano Lesley Manring, mezzo-soprano Dr. Melissa Malde, baritone William Wilson, stage director Brian Clay Luedloff, coach and collaborative pianist Dr. Caleb Harris, and conductor Dr. Russell Guyver.
