My research covers simple to complex societies, encompassing cultures commonly called "bands," "tribes," "chiefdoms" and "states." These societies have populations ranging from tens to hundreds to many thousands, and a single to multi-faceted or multi-tiered leadership or governing structure.
Methodologically I am a generalist with depth of experience in geophysics, human osteology, ceramic, faunal and architectural analysis. Follow the links to the left to explore my recent research examining ancient cities, alternatives to urbanism in middle-range societies, forced resettlement, and geophysical investigations of Native North American forager camps.
