Transfer of Credits
Transfer Evaluations occur automatically when your application for admission is completed. This evaluation is a two-phase process and will include review by the Office of Admissions and Academic Department.
Transfer Evaluation
The Transfer Evaluation will be completed in two phases:
- Phase I:
- The Office of Admissions determines which credits will be applied to the Liberal Arts Core (LAC) university elective and non-transferable categories. This Transfer Evaluation will be sent to you, as well as your academic department.
- Phase II:
- Once your academic department(s) receives a copy of your Transfer Evaluation, they will determine how credits will be applied to the major, minor and teacher education areas (as applicable). Your academic department is responsible for reporting transferable credit back to the Office of Admissions. When the Office of Admissions receives evaluations from academic departments, an updated Transfer Evaluation will be mailed to you.
Please save all Transfer Evaluations for future advising appointments.
If you are transferring from a Colorado two-year institution, you will want to check out our Transfer Guide.
Credits Accepted
- Course credit is accepted from regionally accredited institutions if courses are comparable to those at UNC.
- A maximum of 30 semester hours of credit is accepted for correspondence and extension courses including those from UNC.
- A maximum of 30 semester hours of credit is accepted for college-level courses taken under the auspices of the U.S. military services. Credit may be awarded to veterans of military service who have attended military service schools. This credit is evaluated by the Office of Admissions according to guidelines of the American Council on Education.
- College work earned 10 years before the baccalaureate degree is to be granted may be applicable toward the UNC degree at the discretion of the applicant's intended major and minor programs.
- Previous grade point averages are used for admission and scholarship purposes only and are not carried forward on the student's academic record at UNC. Transfer students begin a new grade point average.
- Approved courses taken at previous institutions with letter grades of “C-” or better are transferable.
Credits Not Accepted
- Credit is not given for courses from non-regionally accredited institutions.
- Credit is not given for courses in which grades of D, F, Incomplete, Unsatisfactory or No Report were earned.
- Credit is not given for vocational or remedial courses below college level.
- Associate of General Studies and Associate of Applied Science degrees are not transferable, but individual classes that are part of those degrees will be evaluated for transfer.
