AP/IB/CLEP/Military Credit
Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Any AP or IB credit awarded may be used toward the 120-credit-minimum requirement for college graduation. Here’s how:
- Take the AP or IB examination(s) and request that your scores be sent to the University of Northern Colorado’s Office of Admissions. AP Exam dates can be found on the College Board site and the IB examination schedule can be found on the International Baccalaureate site.
- UNC will then evaluate your test scores for credit and notify you of the results.
The tables below show the specific courses and credit to be awarded based on score(s) on the various examinations.
Military Credit
Credits may be awarded to current and former members of the armed forces upon submitting documents received from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coat Guard, and Department of Defense. Additional credit may be awarded to veterans of military service who have attended military service schools. This credit is evaluated by the Office of Admissions according to suggested guidelines by the American Council of Education.

Current UNC Students Attending Another Institution
- Please use the Transfer Credit Course Consent Form to obtain approval to transfer the class to UNC before transfer courses are taken at other institutions.
- Please use the UNC Transfer of Credit Form to obtain approval of equivalencies after courses are taken at other institutions.
College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The University of Northern Colorado awards credit for the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) General and Subject Examinations to students who scored at or above the required score. A maximum of 30 credit hours can be applied toward the graduation requirement. The CLEP is administered through Career Services.
UNC accepts Teacher Cadet Program credit toward your teacher education program if you have received a B or better on your Teacher Cadet class. You can request credit for:
- Secondary Students (EDF 366- 3 credits)
- Elementary Students (EDF 370 – 3 credits)
- Physical Education Students (EDFE 170 case-by-case basis)
To request the credit, please send a copy of your Teacher Cadet Certificate of Completion (The Teacher Cadet Program Portfolio Review certificate), showing both portfolio and class grades B or better.
