Meet the Admission Counselors
You can also meet the rest of the staff
Chris Dowen, Director
During my 17 years in the UNC Office of Admissions I believe we have only grown more committed to our core values. At the center of those values are academic excellence, student satisfaction and individual respect. Our staff strives to treat each student as an individual because after all, we would expect nothing less if we were in your shoes.
Morgan Boyack, Associate Director
I love talking to prospective students. Making a decision on which institution to attend is one of the biggest decisions they will make. I encourage all students to do their homework when it comes time to decide which institution is right for them. Come for a campus visit, visit with a department or professor, talk with a current student and take a campus tour. The more homework you do, the better the decision you will make. Enjoy your educational experience, it is a great time of your life.
Tom Jones, Senior Admission Counselor for Transfer Students
I am excited about assisting students with the "transfer transition" to the University of Northern Colorado. One of my main goals is listening to and understanding questions so I can connect students with campus resources. Having spent many years as a community college and university career counselor and academic advisor, I feel I can appreciate and understand where you are coming from. As you make the choice to attend UNC, make sure you are timely with your application and transcripts, ask questions, and visit campus for a tour. After you are enrolled, take advantage of all the university has to offer - in and out of the classroom.
Juan Faz, Senior Admission Counselor
I enjoy talking to students and their parents about UNC. I understand that deciding to go to college and choosing the best college for you are major life decisions. I was a first generation student and remember the anxieties that I and my parents felt. My goal is to help make your transition to UNC a positive experience.
Chris Bierdeman, New Student Events Coordinator/Admission Counselor
I graduated from Taylor University in May 2002 with a degree in Business Administration and a public relations minor. I was very involved in music and drama, participating in both vocal ensembles and musical productions. I also had an opportunity to study abroad in London, England, which I think is an experience that every college student should take advantage of. I even spent a year as a tour guide in the Admissions Office! I am a huge fan of the university experience—the education, the life-changing experiences, and the unlimited opportunity that is presented—and I enjoy the chance to work within that setting as an admissions counselor to be able to bring students’ futures to reality.
Steph Moir, Admission Counselor
I love meeting new people and traveling to new places and that’s exactly what I do as an admissions counselor. As a recent graduate of Northern Colorado
, I am delighted to have the opportunity to share with others the positive experiences I had here. Having been born and raised in
Honolulu
,
Hawaii
, I have experienced first hand what it is like to leave the comforts of home and start a new chapter in life. As a counselor, it is my job to help students and their parents ease into the transition from high school to college. Applying to college can be a long and confusing process and we are here to assist you. Never hesitate to ask questions and our doors are always open for campus visits. Mahalo and I look forward to working with you!
Josh Baros, Admission Counselor
As an alumnus of UNC I have grown very familiar with this school and the community. Although this has made me partial towards UNC, my philosophy as an Admissions Counselor is to provide you with the facts, share some of my perspective, and to then allow you to make up your own mind. When it comes down to it UNC has to be the right fit for you and by providing you with the facts hopefully I will have made your decision easier. Best of luck!!
Dana Hammond, Admission Counselor and Business Coordinator
There is no better job than being able to share the excitement and experience of college with prospective students. Being a native of Colorado I was eager to stay in the state. However, once I attended college, I was lucky enough to be persuaded by fellow students who studied abroad. …And off to Australia I went! I cannot say enough about study abroad and the opportunity that goes with it. I want EVERYONE to not only have a great college experience but to make the most of it by being involved. Welcome and good luck!
Kevin Berg, Admission Counselor

What makes the University of Northern Colorado great? UNC offers a liberal arts education that prepares students for after graduation. With over 100 academic majors, 150 clubs and organizations and a variety of fine arts and athletic programs you will find what you are looking for at UNC! One of the best parts of my job is assisting students and families in the college search process. I encourage everyone to visit campus, meet with a professor, go on a campus tour; and see why the University of Northern Colorado is second to none! Go Bears!
