"Education at all levels is just so important, And it's kind of fun to be at an educational institution that's preparing educators."
Michelle Quinn took the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer at the University of Northern Colorado in 2010. She brought to the position 22 years of financial and leadership experience, including 11 years of service at UNC. Quinn is responsible for the leadership and coordination of the fiscal and physical operation of the university, including overseeing the offices of Budgets and Institutional Analysis, Facilities Management, Financial Services, Human Resources, Information Technology, Risk Management, University Center and University Police.
Quinn has always loved the orderly nature of accounting, so when she went to college she knew exactly what she would study. She received her B.S. in Accounting from George Mason University in Virginia and later obtained her M.A. in Educational Leadership from West Virginia University. After several years as a corporate accountant and CPA, Quinn went to work as the dean of Administration and chief financial officer for Garrett Community College in Maryland. There she felt truly proud of what she was doing for people and fell in love with higher education.
After five years at Garrett, Quinn came to UNC. As soon as she stepped on the campus, she was amazed by the welcoming community and culture. She has seen the impact of a UNC education firsthand; two of her four sons have studied here, and her husband received his teaching certificate from the university. In her free time, Quinn serves as the treasurer of Network Beyond, a charitable organization affiliated with her church. Network Beyond aims to build community and alleviate poverty by partnering with local groups around the world and doing projects such as improving water quality and working with orphanages. Quinn has traveled to Peru twice to assist with these projects.
