Putting in a Consultation Request to OBIA

OBIA has developed a process (Web Request Form) for submitting a request electronically. This will help us track and prioritize requests.  We are amidst a transition with respect to information systems and the means by which we are retrieving data so please be patient as we work through a series of challenges related to data validation, learning a new reporting tool, and report delivery.  We fully expect that a year from now you will have much greater access to basic data and information from Banner. 

In the long run we will be retrieving data from an SCT Banner product called the “Operational Data Store” (ODS).  This product allows for data to be extracted efficiently and refreshed nightly to an environment that is more efficient for reporting.  Additionally, we are currently using a tool called Web Focus to do our reporting.  This diagram identifies how the ODS and Web Focus fit into the overall Banner and URSA environment .

Presently, the ODS is not ready for reporting as a great deal of data validation and testing needs to occur in the early part of the Fall 2006 semester.  In an effort to meet the basic reporting needs for the campus OBIA has created a mechanism for making some reports available to a limited number of people and offices on campus.  If you have questions about this please contact Kelli Parmley in OBIA at 1-2109.

Given the demands and challenges of the current reporting environment we are asking that people making requests assess the criticality of the data need.  A visual representation of how you might think about assessing your request can be helpful. Additionally, in the academic and academic support areas, after several conversations with the academic affairs leadership we are asking that Directors, School Directors or Deans/AVPs (if applicable) act as a clearinghouse for requests and help assess criticality.  In the administrative offices we are asking that Directors also review and assess information requests.  You will see a place on the web request form to include an email address for the person who has reviewed your request.
