Build and support a campus environment characterized by inclusive decision-making, dialogue, shared governance, diversity, and respect for all members of the University.
- “Respect”—Classified staff evaluation defines what must be done to reach “peak performance” but the “reward” is not defined in advance (and vice versa: limited penalties)
- Need campus environment that communicates accomplishments (our environment doesn’t value people)
- Need more participation in representative groups, and they need to have a meaningful role
- Goal needs some emphasis on how decisions will ultimately be made
Recruit and retain high-quality faculty, staff and administrators.
- I don’t equate this to dollars; it’s about showing you value people
- Facilities, infrastructure, budget help recruit employees
- Incentives vary, depending on which stage of your career you’re in
Build, improve, and maintain university facilities and infrastructure appropriate to our academic mission and functions.
- I’m all for that goal
- As a student 10 years ago, I enjoyed unlimited access to computer labs but I would like to see students have unlimited access in every classroom
- [Commenting on comment above] Some faculty don’t want that distraction
- Important to know meaning of “appropriate to our academic mission”
Make teaching learning, scholarship/creative activity, and service the core of the university.
- Seems we haven’t put much emphasis on role of mission
- “Service”—Do we mean customer service?
- We need to find out what our customers want (Does IT provide services student want? Are we teaching what students want? Do we do what the state wants/needs? Are classes small enough?)
Provide high-quality co-curricular learning experiences for all students.
- We don’t know meaning of co-curricular
- [Recommendation] Provide high-quality learning experiences outside the classroom for all students..
CrDecember 1, 2006 environment of transparency that supports the academic plan.
- What does within an environment of transparency mean?
- End goal after “resources” (strike remainder of sentence). Budgeting affects the whole university—it’s not just about the academic plan
- If all contracts were public record after signing, it would be more transparent
Build an institutional identity and reputation for academic excellence.
- We never said “why” we were Colorado’s best university experience
- This is about publication of good things happening at UNC
- It’s hard to buy things with UNC logo off campus
Cultivate external partnerships and relationships in support of academic excellence and community engagement.
- The group sees the differences between the last two goals.
- It would be better to have no TV channel than ours (Aims has channel) Need resources.
QUESTIONS/COMMENTS:
- Need to address relationship/connection with students (consistent, enthusiastic advising, residence hall programming)
NEXT SEMESTER
- This isn’t too time consuming
- I thought Round 2 was the same as Round 1
- I like the interaction among different areas
- Only knew about it because supervisor shared information
- Encourage supervisors to share information
- Share results of this process. Let people see how academic plan goals affect budget.
