Campus Letter from the Academic Plan Steering Committee

Dear Campus Community,
University of Northern Colorado faculty, staff and students are in the process of creating an academic plan that will guide budget, facilities and fund raising priorities.
The Academic Plan Steering Committee will host a series of Campus Conversations Oct. 18-26 in order to articulate common goals for the plan. We hope everyone on campus will attend a conversation, so we’ve scheduled them at a variety of times on east, west and central campus. The schedule is included at the end of this e-mail.
The goal of the Campus Conversations is to identify the things we do best at UNC, to pinpoint the most crucial elements of recent planning efforts, to solicit new ideas, and to begin building consensus about our future direction as an academic institution. We will identify common goals based on what we learn from the Campus Conversations. Then, we will host additional conversations to help us refine the goals. Next semester, we will develop measurable objectives toward achieving the goals.
Many faculty, staff, students and campus leaders have already invested significant time and energy in a variety of planning efforts. A summary of recent work can be downloaded from the Academic Planning website at www.unco.edu/academicplanning. The summary includes common themes and recommendations from planning documents produced in the past three years and work done by academic plan subcommittees in spring 2006.
The Academic Planning website also has links to the full subcommittee reports, details about upcoming Campus Conversations and Steering Committee work, and background information such as Charting the Future documents and UNC’s self-study report to the Higher Learning Commission.
As a campus community, we have endured considerable change in the past few years. We cut budgets dramatically. We reorganized. We engaged in lengthy and sometimes contentious planning exercises. This open academic planning process will allow us to draw upon our strengths as an institution and build a community consensus about our future direction.
