“Women’s Studies gave me the strength and courage to make this world a better place for people of every gender, sexuality, nationality, age, and ability.” —Stephanie, Psychology ’06 |
Welcome to the Web site of the University of Northern Colorado Women’s Studies Program. Our interdisciplinary program has been in existence since 1974, and the Program enables students who minor in Women’s Studies to understand the role of gender in our contemporary society. As a minor in this program, a student will investigate how issues of race, class, sexual orientation, age, and ability impact individuals’ lives in terms of politics, economics, legal issues, relationships, spirituality, and body image.
Our dynamic, dedicated faculty members assist students through advising and instruction. These members, in addition to their own research, teaching, volunteer work, and memberships in national and international organizations, serve as advisors for directed studies and internships. Recently, all three core faculty members have been awarded or nominated for Teacher of the Year at Aims Community College and the UNC Women’s Resource Center’s “Inspiring Woman of the Year Award” and the UNC Housing and Residence Life Academic Recognition of “Commitment to Excellence in Teaching.”
Two minors were nominated for the UNC Women’s Resource Center’s “Inspiring Woman of the Year” of 2006 award, and one was chosen as the recipient. Recently, minors have paired their WS study with a variety of majors including
- Business
- Political Science
- Communication
- Sociology
- Psychology
- Music Education
- English
- Nonprofit Administration
