A block of 20 rooms has been reserved for Friday night
at the AmericInn at the rate of $84 for a double room. You can
upgrade the room to a suite, beginning with the Queen/King Executive, for an
additonal $10. Rates includes a continental breakfast. Attendees
can get this rate by contacting the hotel directly at 877-205-8226 and using
the access code: RMC.
The address is 4712 East Grand in Laramie. For
additional information about the hotel, visit http://www.americinn.com/hotels/WY/Laramie.
The easiest way to get to the hotel is to take I-25
north to Cheyenne and then get on I-80 west. Take the first Laramie exit off
I-80 (the East Grand exit). The hotel is about 1 mile on the left.
For a more scenic drive, try the old Overland Stage
route - take I-25 north to Exit 281 (Owl Canyon). Follow the road toward the
mountains. Don't worry when the road turns to dirt (a good unpaved road) or
if it meanders to the north for about a mile. Anytime you need to make a
turn, head toward the mountains (there's really only one turn to make). When
the Owl Canyon road connects with Hwy. 287, turn right. Follow 287 for about
40 miles to Laramie. In Laramie, turn right at the 3rd stoplight, which is
Grand Avenue. Follow Grand for about 3 miles until you see a Walmart on the
right. The AmericInn is a little further along on the right.

Suggestions
Laramie is small enough that it hasn’t yet attracted all
the restaurant chains that tend to drive out the more eclectic independents. We
are starting to get the chains, but we still have a number of unique places.
Most of the restaurants are located in 3 areas—along Grand
Avenue, along Hwy. 287 (3rd Street), or in the downtown area.
Grand Avenue runs east to west, and the AmericInn is
located on the far east end of Grand. If you follow Grand far enough, it
intersects with 3rd Street. On the west end of 3rd street is the downtown area.

As you drive toward town from Grand, you run into a
number of restaurants including Applebees, Winger’s, Jimmy
John’s, McAlister’s Deli, Bailey’s Subs, and the Library
(which has the best home brewed beer in town). You’ll also drive by a number
of franchised hamburger joints, taco stands, and breakfast places, although
don’t forget the AmericInn provides breakfast.
The downtown area has more homegrown restaurants. This
includes two vegetarian places—Sweet Melissa’s and Jeffrey’s, a
Cajun place—Tommy Jack’s, Thai food—Anong’s, and a brew pub—Altitude.
Most of the Chinese restaurants are located along 3rd
Street. To get to a good Mexican restaurant—Corona Village, turn left on
3rd Street and turn left again at the caboose just before 3rd Street crosses
under I-80. A very good but pricey steak place is the Cavalryman which is
on the left side of Hwy. 287 about 2 miles south of town (heading toward Ft.
Collins).
Recommended places are the
Library (for the homebrewed beer), the Altitude (the beer isn’t as good but the
food is better), Sweet Melissa’s, Jeffrey’s, Tommy Jack’s, Anong’s Thai, the
Mandarin (turn right onto 3rd Street from Grand), Corona Village, and the
Cavalryman.
