Services offered by the UNC Police Department

The University of Northern Colorado Police Department is responsible for law enforcement, criminal investigation, public safety, security, traffic control and emergency response at the University of Northern Colorado. Our offices are in Gray Hall, located on Central Campus. The department is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to serve the University community.

The UNC Police Department is a full service police agency with full police powers. The University Police Officers are POST-certified Level I Peace Officers in the State of Colorado and have the same police authority as all other Peace Officers in the State of Colorado.

911 Emergency Services

Women Using emergency poleTo report an emergency, dial 911 from any campus telephone. This will ring you straight to the UNC Police Department Communications Center. Please note, dialing 911 on a cell phone will put you in contact with the Weld County Communications Center, who will be able to transfer you to the UNC Police Department.

Numerous, well-marked exterior emergency phone poles are located throughout the campus along main sidewalks. These poles can be identified by the word “EMERGENCY” written on the side, as well as the blue light on top. These blue lights automatically turn on after dark to assist in locating them. To use the poles, press the “call” button on the pole, and you will be directly connected to the UNCPD Communications Center.

A Ride-Along Permit must be filled out and turned into the department prior to the date you wish to ride, as it has to be approved by the Chief or Shift Supervisor. Please note on the form if there is a particular officer you would like to ride with. The Ride-Along Permit is available in the Forms section of the UNCPD website.
