Financial Aid Student Employment

Student Employment Requirements

  • Student-hourly employees must be enrolled for at least six (6) credits for undergraduate and five (5) credits for graduate students each semester.
  • Work-study employees must be enrolled for at least 12 credits each semester.
  • You must have a Social Security card before you can work as a student-employee.
  • If you have been awarded work-study as part of your financial aid package, you must obtain a work authorization from the Student Employment Office, which informs the hiring department how much work-study money you can earn.
  • Electronic Personnel Action Forms for student-hourly employees, are completed by the employer.
  • If you work more than one job or are seeking summer employment, you will need a work authorization for each job.
  • All student-employees must complete an Employment Eligibility Verification Form (I-9). All work-study students who have not completed one must show the Office of Student Employment the following: picture ID - driver's license, student ID, Colorado ID or military ID; & an original (no photocopies) Social Security card or a certified birth certificate (raised seal) or United States passport.
  • Work-Study awards may be cancelled if a Student has not picked up thier work authorization by mid-term.

International Student-Employees

  • Both graduate and undergraduate international student-employees must be enrolled full time during fall and spring semesters but do not have to be enrolled for the summer term.
  • International student-employees are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during fall and spring semesters and full time (40 hours) in the summer.
  • International students are required to show the Human Resource Office their passport and form I-20 or I-97 as well as their Social Security card in order to complete the Immigration form I-9.
