Position Title:  Assistant Professor, Mathematics Education

Job Summary:
Seeking two individuals to fill two Assistant Professor, tenure track, nine month appointments in the School of Mathematical Sciences. Full-time load consists of nine hours of teaching per semester in addition to research and service. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in elementary or secondary teacher education programs, graduate mathematics education, and undergraduate mathematics content. Duties will include working with graduate students at the master’s and doctoral level, and ultimately directing dissertations. We offer opportunities to collaborate with a collegial group of mathematical educators, mathematicians, and statisticians.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate in Mathematics Education with graduate coursework in mathematics or Doctorate in Mathematics with demonstrable achievement in mathematics education research. ABD will be considered provided that Doctorate is received within one year of the starting date. Strong potential for active involvement in our Ph.D. program in educational mathematics. Evidence of effective teaching and potential for future research in mathematics education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience with pre-service and in-service teachers, K-12 teaching experience, and experience in grant writing. Preference may be given to candidates with special expertise in elementary or secondary school mathematics education.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits available include health, life, and dental insurance, as well as a selection of several defined contribution retirement programs. Dependents and spouses of UNC employees who are employed as 0.5 FTE or above are entitled to and eligible for Dependent Tuition Grants. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position. Opportunities for summer instruction may be available.
