Adding Your First Assignment
  • This tutorial will guide a user through the basics of a first assignment.  In this tutorial we will only select problems that have already been created.  No attempt will be made to create new problems. Alternativly you can copy another instructors assignment Copy assignment
  • Before you begin this process you should first go through the class-list tutorial.
  • Log into your class.  
  • On the main menu select "Hmwk sets editor".
  • Select the button labeled "Create a new set ..."
  • Name your homework set, then select "a new empty set" as the option.  Note: The name of your homework set may not contain any spaces!!!!
  • Click "take action".  You should get screen that looks something like this (hmwkpi1).
  • Over in the main menu click on "library browser".
  • You should have a window with this drop down menu

  • Change the drop down menu so it has your homework assignment in the box.  Something like this (hmwkpi2).
  • In the Browse tab you will want to click the "problem library" button.  Your window will look like this (hmwkpi3).
  • Select an appropriate subject (for the tutorial I selected algebra).
  • Wait a few seconds (for the webpage to update) then select an appropriate chapter (I selected functions).
  • Wait a few seconds then select an appropriate section (I selected inverse functions).
  • Select "view problems" with images and "20" as the options.
  • Select a couple of problems, depending on how large the library is you may be able to view more than one page.  However, before you click on the next page you must update the set as described below.
  • Once you have chosen your problems scroll back up to the top of the page and select "update set".  
  • From the main menu go back to the homework sets editor.  
  • Click on the link entitled "edit assigned users" (the link is purple in the picture).
  • Select the users to whom you would like to assign the problems and then click "save".
  • The final step is to edit number of attempts students get on a problem. By default the number of attempts is set to unlimited. To change this value you will need to follow these steps.
  • From the main menu go back to the homework sets editor.  
  • Click on the link entitled "edit problems" (the link is blue in the picture).
  • Scroll to the problems and look for the box that says "unlimited."
  • Change this value to the number of attempts you would like students to have.
  • Do this for each problem you would like to change.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "save changes" button.
