Interested in college algebra materials?

The activities, homework assignments, quizzes, reviews, and exams on this site were developed and tested in four college algebra classes at the University of Northern Colorado during Fall 2007. The instructors, Joe Champion and Bernadette Mendoza-Spencer, thought the course went very well and Robert Powers is currently evaluating the data we collected on students' experience of the course, achievement, and goal orientations.

Description of the Course

A typical 50-minute class period in our college algebra classes included a 10 minute warm-up activity followed by interactive lecture or in-class activities. We emphasized cooperative learning, technology use (including the TI-Navigator®), frequent assessments, and active participation.

Some of the key features of our approach were:

  • Over 20 new in-class Activities developed to emphasize cooperative learning
  • Weekly Pencil and Paper Homework assignments and related Quiz assessments
  • Extended Review Guides with exercises to prepare students for Exams
  • Integration of graphing calculators and web-based technologies.
  • Web-based homework provided through WeBWorK
  • Daily 10-minute warm-up activities
