Dr. Mark Guiberson is an Assistant Professor in Audiology and Speech-Language Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado. He teaches courses in child language development and disorder, evidence based practices and research, and intervention and assessment approaches with culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
Dr. Guiberson’s research interests include early language development and disorders in Spanish speaking children, assessment and screening of children from linguistically diverse backgrounds, and issues related to disproportionate representation of linguistic minorities in Special Education. He co-authored two book chapters with Dr. Hortencia Kayser in Educating Latino Preschool Children (2007). He also has published in peer-reviewed journals on the topics of language loss in young Spanish speakers, intervention approaches for children with cochlear implants from bilingual families, screening/assessment practices with young Spanish speakers, and Hispanic/Latino representation in special education programs. His current research program is evaluating the effectiveness of Spanish versions of parent surveys in identifying children with language impairment. Dr. Guiberson is currently collaborating in research projects with Dr. Barbara Rodriguez and Dr. Donna Boudreau.
Dr. Guiberson is also involved in clinical teaching. His areas of specialty in practice include: language intervention, bilingual and linguistically diverse populations, early intervention, and preschool & school age populations. |
