The Program includes:
Academic-year component on the UNC campus with instructional and tutorial services as well as monthly activities. ( Sept. – May: No weekends or school holidays)
- Students attend classes on the UNC campus for 14 weeks during each academic semester (fall and spring). Students are required to attend two days each week – one day dedicated to language arts and math and the second day dedicated to the Youth Media component. Instruction and tutoring support are provided each day the students attend.
Summer Component on the UNC campus for 6-weeks (non-residential). ( Early June – Mid July: No Weekends)
- Students will be on the UNC campus during the six-week period from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are provided every day, with breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. Academic classes begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. In addition, students will participate in a physical activity component from 3:00-4:00 p.m. In addition, students are required to attend the monthly events consisting of both and educational piece and a social piece.
Youth Media Component during both the academic year and summer sessions
- Students participate in the program’s Youth Media using technology such as video, radio, and computers to improve reading and writing skills. Youth Media also incorporates music and other creative arts. The Youth Media Coordinator provides year-round and summer instruction in classes such as narrative and documentary video production and script writing.
