The Community Engaged Scholars Symposium (formerly known as Embracing Community Together) is looking for participants who are involved with regional and/or global applied community-based research, partnerships, and other activities which connect disciplinary knowledge to practice. Individuals (faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, UNC departments, and community organizations) are invited to showcase their works through this interactive symposium.

The Engaged Scholar Awards program also offers the opportunity for recognition for community engaged activities and are presented during the Engaged Scholars Symposium. Nominations deadline is TBD

 

Our Mission: To create a venue in which community engaged research, scholarship, and creative works are showcased to facilitate networking and recognize excellence in an interactive symposium.

Our Vision: Creating a place where ideas are sparked, connections are made, and seeds for future projects are planted in order to pormote community-based solutions to regional and global challenges.

Poster presentations, demonstration projects, round-table discussions, and other interactive formats are welcomed!

Engaged Scholar Awards

To recognize excellence and scholarship in the field of community-based research, community-based learning, and community partner building, The Center for Honors, Scholars, and Leadership would like to present the UNC Engagement Award to be introduced during UNC’s 6th Annual Engaged Scholarship Symposium: Active Communities Seeking Solutions. The UNC Engaged Scholar Award was created to recognize and honor outstanding efforts and achievements made toward the development and practice of the field of community engagement inside and outside of the UNC campus. The primary mission of this award is to make service learning and civic engagement the expectation inside and outside of research fields to denote the need for more efficient, dynamic, and high-quality UNC-Community partnerships.

  • Community Organization Partner (regional and/or global)
  • UNC Faculty
  • UNC Staff
  • Graduate Student
  • Undergraduate Student

During this year's Engaged Scholars Symposium, an awards ceremony will take place to recognize those active in the campus and regional/global community who are making strides toward increasing scholarship and research on issues that impact their communities.
