CHANGE BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITIES
We are excited to announce:
The UNC DO IT Center has become the academic
Department of American Sign Language & Interpreting Studies!
As we begin the fall 2016 semester, we are excited to welcome the new Department of American Sign Language & Interpreting Studies (ASLIS) Director, Dr. Barbara Garrett. Dr. Garrett earned her Ph.D. in Intercultural Education, with emphases in Anthropology & Linguistics, from Biola University in California. Her dissertation research, an ethnography entitled, Learning to be Deaf, took her into the Deaf Culture to explore this question based on members’ experiences and perspectives. Dr. Garrett is in the process of relocating from Missouri with her family. While the learning curve is anticipated to be steep, Dr. Garrett is enthusiastically embracing the new ASLIS opportunities at the University of Northern Colorado.
The ASLIS department has offically started offerring the new minor in ASL Studies, both on campus and online, as well as adding the ASL-English Interpretation BA program on the UNC Greeley campus.
Congratulations to our 2016 Honor Students!
