Earn 9 Credits: FL 296 (LAC 7), ANT 296, and MIND 295 (LAC elective)
Spend your summer scaling ancient Mayan temples, swimming in underground cenotes and discovering the vibrant culture of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. This program is open to students of all majors, and you can earn 9 credits in this hands-on, engaging summer session.
Students will fly into Cancún, spend a couple days in Mérida exploring various historical sites. On day 3, students depart for Yunkú for their service learning. On the way, students will visit Loltún Cave and Maní. Classes begin on Day 5. Classes will take place in the mornings, followed by service learning in the afternoon continuting into the evening working with adult populations.
Evenings will be mixed with service learning, cross-cultural meetings learning about Mayan customs and community life. Students will be actively engaged in the planning and cooking of dinners with host-country nationals.

Costs
The estimated cost for the program is $2,095 - $2,650 which includes tuition, accommodations, all excursions, field trips, several meals, and in-country transportation.
Price excludes international airfare, passport fees, some meals, health insurance, personal expenses. These additional costs are estimated at $1,000 or less.
Financial Aid
Summer financial aid is available to qualified UNC students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits during the summer term. This program is valued at 9 credits.
The amount of aid will depend upon the student’s financial need. To find out how much aid is available, students should contact Justin Davis (justin.davis@unco.edu).
Courses
Students will earn 9 credits, which can be applied to meet LAC requirements in area 7 as well as LAC elective credit. These courses will include a combination of online work, a study abroad experience, and face-to-face classroom work. Students are required to enroll in all 3 courses.

Eligibility
This program is open to all students with a minimum of 24 UNC credits and 2.5 GPA.
Housing and Meals
Housing costs are included in the price of tuition. Students will share rooms with other students on the trip in different hotels and haciendas throughout the region. Some meals are included in the cost of tuition. However, students will be responsible for those meals not included. Food is relatively affordable in the Yucatán.
Application
Applications are considered complete when all forms are turned in and the $400 deposit is received. Only complete applications will be processed..

Students do not need a visa to travel to Mexico.
