Chulalongkorn University, located in Thailand’s capital city Bangkok, was established in 1917 by King Vajiravudh, Rama VI. The university is named after his father King Chulalongkorn, Rama V. The university extends over 456 acres on land granted by the royal family. Chulalongkorn University is composed of 41 faculties, departments, colleges, and research offices. The student body consists of nearly 21,000 undergraduate students, 9,740 master degree students, and 1,737 doctorial students. In 2009, Chulalongkorn University was ranked 138th in the World University Ratings by Times Higher Education. The university celebrates its cultural richness by requesting students wear uniforms that symbolizes the quality of personal and academic achievement.

Location

Activities


Chulalongkorn offers many academic resources, a health center, large library, and several sporting facilities including multiple pools, indoor gyms, outdoor playing fields, weight rooms, and physical fitness facilities.

Courses


Chulalongkorn University offers many courses in English including: architecture, languages and culture (Thai & Asian), business (accounting, international business management), communications, economics, psychology, applied chemistry.  The Monfort College of Business has approved business courses for transfer credit.

Eligibility


This program is open to all majors with no limit on the number of UNC students who can participate each semester. Students may apply for one semester or one academic year. To be eligible to apply students must have at least a 2.5 GPA and have completed at least one semester of courses at UNC.

Housing and Meals

Students have the opportunity to live on-campus or off campus.

  • On-Campus Housing: On-campus housing is extremely limited due to the area the university is located. If you wish to live on-campus, apply far in advance to secure a spot. On-campus housing is available at the Suksit Nives International House which has air conditioning, 24 hour security and a fire prevention system. On-campus housing is also available at the U-Center dormitory. Prices range from 3,650-7,500 Baht/person/month depending on room type.
  • Off-Campus Housing: Chulalongkorn University has agreements with several nearby apartment buildings. These apartments have modern amenities and standard apartment appliances. The prices range steeply depending on location and apartment type.

Students will cook for themselves or purchase meals at restaurants. Most students who have traveled to Thailand have purchased most of their meals at restaurants. Students should budget about 10,000 Baht per month for meals.

Application

Students must first complete the UNC application for exchange. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Students meeting the minimum requirements will be selected to participate. If selected, the student will need to complete an admissions application for Karlsruhe University of Education.

Visa

Once you are accepted, you will be issued a letter of acceptance. This letter, along with the items listed below, must be sent with your passport to receive your visa. You will apply for a “non-immigrant” visa category “ED.” Visa processing time is approximately 10 days. However, it is recommended you begin the application process at least 30 days in advance to account for shipping time and holiday delays.

  • Category type: Non-Immigrant “ED” for education

 

At the time of application

  • Must have passport with at least six months validity
  • Must present at the time of application a bank statement of with a balance of at least $500 USD for an individual or $1000 USD for a family
  • Letter of acceptance from Thai university
  • Must have Yellow Fever vaccination
  • Processing time: Approximately 10 days (not including shipping time)---it is recommended to initiate this process at least 30 days in advance
