Location

Siauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania. It has a history dating back to 1236 AD. It is located in northern Lithuania less than 150 miles away from Vilnius, Lithuania, Riga, Latvia, and the Baltic Sea. The city is famous for the Hill of Crosses. Destroyed several times during the Soviet occupation of Lithuania, the Hill of Crosses was resurrected after each demolition as a testament to faith, devotion, and the Lithuanian spirit. Siauliai offers many other cultural attractions such as art museums, festivals, and sporting events.

Little known in the U.S., Lithuania is becoming a travel destination for Europeans. Since its emancipation from Soviet rule, Lithuania has joined the European Union and revived its economy. With white sand beaches in the west, forest lakes in the middle, and Europe’s largest baroque old town in Vilnius, students will be pleasantly surprised with what Lithuania has to offer.
