The Université Laval is located in Québec City, Canada. Laval is the oldest center for education in Canada and is the first French Language speaking university established in the new world. It is one of Canada’s most prestigious research institutions in Canada. It hosts more than 400 academic programs and has a student population of 37,000 with more than 2,500 international students.
It also is home to the largest sports complex in Canada. It has over 30 buildings all linked by underground tunnels, allowing students to avoid inclement weather. The students union includes a pub, restaurants, cafeteria, hair salon, bookstore, and more.

Location
Québec City is a European- style city on the banks of the St. Lawrence Seaway. It has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site and is listed as one of North America’s top ten tourist destinations. The city caters to all interests with museums, art galleries, theatres, and sports venues. Its location near lakes, forests, and mountains provides the outdoors enthusiast with numerous opportunities. This is the prime location to explore the development of French culture in North America.

Activities
Students will receive an international buddy who will help show them around campus and get them acclimated to life in Québec. Welcome week includes nightly activities. The international student office will also organize cultural activities and field trips. Additionally, students can get involved in a plethora of outdoor activities in and around Québec City.

Courses
Students have four tracks of study depending on their interests and language ability. Students may enroll in business courses offered in English, English/Literature courses taught in English, intensive French language, or the full range of university courses taught in French.
The business school at Laval is AACSB accredited allowing business students to transfer most courses back to their degree program at UNC. The Monfort College of Business has developed a list of transferable courses for business majors.

For those wishing to take English literature courses, the University of Laval offers 10-15 courses taught in English each semester.
Students wishing to study French language may enroll in the 15-week intensive French language program during the semester. Laval offers all levels of French language.

Students with a high level of French language ability may enroll in regular courses taught in French. Laval has programs comparable to nearly every major offered at UNC. There is an additional 92 CAD fee per 3-credit class.

Canada uses the US credit system, so students will enroll in 12-15 credit hours while on exchange.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply students must have at least a 2.5 GPA and must have completed at least two semester of courses at UNC.
Availability
This program is open to all majors.There are 2-3 available spots per semester. Students may apply for one semester or one academic year.
Housing
Laval faculty will reserve a room in on-campus housing, however students must confirm this reservation by sending in a completed application form directly to the housing office before the deadline.
Students will live in student dorms on campus and eat inexpensively at campus cafeterias. Rooms come equipped with kitchens and bathrooms.

Application
Students must first complete the UNC application for exchange. Applications will be evaluated and selections will be made immediately after the application deadline. If selected, the student will need to complete an admissions application for the Université Laval.
Visa
U.S. students do not have to apply for a visa in advance if studying less than 6 months. Students simply need to show their acceptance letter and passport at the customs agent in Canada.
If studying longer than 6 months,
students must file an application for a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) and a Study Permit (Permis d’études) of Canada.

Students can apply for the Canadian student permit at the same time that they apply for the CAQ. Once you have the CAQ, the Canadian Embassy or Consulate will be informed and they will receive the permit.
Without the CAQ and permit, they will not be allowed to enter the country. We cannot do anything to facilitate or to help speed up the process, apply as soon as your acceptance leter is received.
