Use this form when you need to get approval for course equivalency while already overseas. Follow the insturctions on this form.
This form MUST be completed while overseas and have the appropriate signatures. After enrollment, send this form to Lauren.Bruce@unco.edu in order to verify full-time enrollment, which will release your financial aid.
Please list credits as they exist at your host institution. If you are unsure of the number of credits for each course, ask your coordinator, or indicate the number of contact hours for that course. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONVERT CREDIT HOURS TO THE UNC SYSTEM.
This form should be completed using various resources--travel websites, the CIE Study Abroad webpages for specific programs, etc. Once completed, the Study Abroad and Exchange Coordinator must sign this form. It should then be take to the Office of Financial Aid to determine your financial aid package. This form must be returned to CIE after meeting with the Office of Financial Aid.
If you plan on using financial aid to help pay for your study abroad, you MUST complete this process.
This form should be completed with the help of your Academic Advisor and CIE. For each course you transfer back, you MUST get the appropriate deparment's signature. For example, if you are transferring a course back as a History course at UNC, the History department must approve that course. After obtaining all corresponding signatures, please have your Academic Advisor sign the form. Return this form to CIE BEFORE your departure.
The Registrar's office, CIE, or your Academic Advisor may sign off on courses transferring back as an LAC or university elective. However, all courses you plan to take abroad must be listed on this form.
Remember that not all international credit systems are equivalent to the US system used at UNC. Most European countries use ECTS. So, if you take an 8 credit course while studying abroad at a school that uses ECTS, that course is equivalent to 4 UNC credit hours, and will be transferred back accordingly. Courses using ECTS will range from 2-12 credits, or 1-6 UNC credit hours.
When in doubt, UNC uses the following formula for international transfer credit hours:
15 contact hours = 1 UNC credit.
