CETL Announces Teaching and Learning Faculty Fellows
As part of our mission to the campus academic community, to assess its needs, and to provide professional development that ultimately results in better teaching and learning, the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) is proud to announce new CETL Faculty Fellows, starting this fall 2012. The Faculty Fellows, who will initially serve a one-year term, will work collaboratively to support faculty across their colleges and the institution, in collaboration with the CETL Associate Director for Faculty Development.
Faculty fellows were selected based on their demonstrated successful experience with teaching and learning strategies, in either face-to face classroom, online or hybrid environments; a strong interest in the advancement of the scholarship of teaching and learning and supporting such tradition at UNC; a capacity and enthusiasm to work collegially within the college and beyond and where relevant, experience with engaged scholarship and with teaching and learning with off-campus communities.
As a new initiative Faculty Fellows were selected from the colleges of Education and Behavioral Sciences (Dr. Susan Hutchinson), Humanities and Social Sciences (Dr. Nancy Matchett), Monfort College of Business ( Sharon Clinebell, DBA), and the University Libraries (Andrea Falcone, MLS, MA). Fellows will work to achieve several purposes, each intended to enhance teaching and learning practices. We hope to fill the faculty fellow positions for the colleges of Visual and Performing Arts, and Natural and Health Sciences as soon as convenient. It is our goal that the T&L Fellows will among other possibilities accomplish the following:
1. Effectively expand institutional faculty development capacity by implementing a faculty-teaching-faculty model;
2. Customize specific faculty development initiatives within each college based on each college’s priorities and disciplinary and instructional contexts;
3. Help meet faculty teaching and learning needs and support the scholarship of teaching and more broadly, engaged scholarship, involving external communities;
4. Share and disseminate best practices among the T&L Fellows thus creating opportunities for faculty in different colleges to be exposed to discipline-specific teaching and learning strategies and potentially those that are also the focus of another college.
Please join me in welcoming our new CETL Faculty Fellows. If you have questions or ideas for possible forums or topics please contact either your college fellow or me directly. All the best for a wonderful semester and great year!
