What Types of Counseling Are Offered?

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling can help people to explore and improve a variety of relationship and personal challenges.  Individual counseling is one-on-one and provided in a safe and confidential setting. Some issues people talk about in individual counseling include: depression, low self-esteem, stress, abuse issues, grief and loss, sexuality, drug and alcohol use, eating disorders.

Couples and Family Counseling

Couples and family counseling can help people to explore and improve their relationships. Some issues that couples and families talk about in counseling include: communication issues, setting boundaries, establishing family rules and expectations, parenting, and divorce.

Group Counseling

Do you want to learn how to interact with others in more effective ways? Want to improve or create healthier relationships? The Psychological Services Clinic can help. We are currently offering group counseling for UNC undergraduate students, graduate students, and adult community members.

Group therapy is a safe and supportive environment for group members to share and explore personal struggles with others experiencing similar challenges. If you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, or want to improve your self-esteem, relational, communication, or assertiveness skills, group counseling may be right for you.

Play Therapy

Young children (ages 3-9) may benefit from play therapy.  When children face changes or challenges in their life it may be difficult for them to express their feelings in words.  Through play therapy children can learn to express their thoughts and feelings in constructive ways.
